MEET MATT MCKELL
Matt McKell is a Santee parent, community member, retired U.S. Navy veteran, and federal civilian leader with more than two decades of experience leading teams, managing complex training programs, and preparing people to succeed in demanding environments.
Matt and his wife are raising two teenagers in Santee. Their son is an 8th-grade student in the Santee School District, and their daughter is a sophomore at West Hills High School. As a parent with children at different stages of their education, Matt understands firsthand how the decisions made by our local school boards affect students and families.
Matt’s son also has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), giving Matt personal insight into the experiences of families navigating special education. He understands the importance of ensuring students with different learning needs receive appropriate support, that parents are included as partners in the process, and that teachers and staff have the resources they need to help every student make progress.
Throughout his career, Matt has focused on practical education and readiness: understanding what people need to know, building effective training, supporting different ways of learning, measuring results, and continuously improving programs. He believes many of those same principles matter in our schools.
Matt is running for Santee School District Board of Education, Seat 5, because strong schools are essential to a strong community. Students deserve to feel safe, supported, challenged, and prepared for what comes next. Teachers and staff deserve the tools and support to do their jobs well, while parents deserve transparency, communication, and a meaningful voice in their children’s education.
Matt would bring a practical, service-minded approach to the board: listen first, ask thoughtful questions, respect educators, protect students, use public resources responsibly, and keep the focus on helping Santee students succeed.
